 Anxiety comes unannounced and nobody is spared from its clutches. It can lead to adverse effects on the mental and physical health of a person, without giving the slightest warning.
Therefore, one needs to be extremely vigilant if there are symptoms that are way beyond the normal.

1. Mood swings and irritability: Phases of mood swings can appear anytime, without a valid reason. Due to a perennial tensed state of the mind, irritation builds up and mood swings aggravate it. A person with chronic anxiety is unable to understand the reasons for his/her constant state of worrying, even if there is absolutely no reason to be tensed.

2. Cravings for sugary food: One tends to eat more when tension fiddles with the body and engulfs the mind. However, if one starts to have intricate cravings for sugary food every time one is anxious, it might be a symptom of anxiety disorder. The sugar rush tends to increase the mental insecurities, worsening the anxious and tensed state of mind.

3.Muscular pain: One of the physical symptoms of anxiety is irregular instances of muscular pain. Often, mental fatigue transforms into physical pain which can be an indicator of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Due to mental stress, an individual unknowingly tightens the muscles that can lead to pain in the body. Anxiety muscle tension symptoms can occur at regular intervals, or stay for a brief moment and then disappear. At times, the pain can last from a few minutes to several hours, which hampers the relaxation process.

4. Lack of focus: Anxiety can make it almost impossible to concentrate or focus on a particular issue. Focus takes a great deal of mental energy, but distractions caused by chronic anxiousness can make it difficult for a person to pay attention. Research has found that stress can impair short-term learning and focus areas of the brain. Therefore, when stress-levels elevate, many people have difficulty concentrating on the little things of day-to-day life. A constant lack of focus is an underlying sign of anxiety.

5.Difficulty relaxing: The inability to relax can also be a sign of anxiety. Constantly carrying stress without relaxing can hamper sleep. In fact, when the mind is not relaxed, it gets tedious for a person to continue with the normal routine.

Anxiety disorders can be treated with the right kind of treatment. Psychotherapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), is an important method to treat anxiety in individuals. Psychotherapy, coupled with medicines and alternative treatments, such as yoga, exercises, medication, can help an individual get better.
